SZIGET FESTIVAL 2019 – INFO GUIDE

Only 2 more weeks and one of the largest festival of Europe the Sziget Festival will start! We collected some general information and useful tips for you.

Sziget Festival is one of the largest music and cultural events in Europe offering concerts, art, exhibitions, workshops and freedom to its visitors. The festival takes place at the Óbudai–sziget (Old Buda Island), a 108 hectares green island on the Danube River. The first event was organised by students in 1993 and at beginning it was known as Diáksziget (Student Island) then in 2002 the organisers changed the name to what we know now – Sziget Festival. Also, from 2013 the festival is known as The Island of Freedom and it promotes equality and diversity with its slogan: “Love Revolution at Sziget”.

Every year the festival brings the most talented bands and singers, which attracts visitors from all around the world. Last year more than 500 thousand people attended the festival and the organisers are expecting more people this year.

The festival will be held between 7 and 13 August, during these days it becomes one of the biggest attraction of the city. This year’s line-up will blow your mind, well-known bands and singers such as Ed Sheeran, the Foo Fighters, Florence + The Machine, the 1975 and Post Malone among others will perform on stage.

GETTING TO SZIGET

You can also take the shuttle service running between Sziget (H bridge checkpoint) and Liszt Ferenc International Airport Terminal 2. If you buy a Sziget Budapest City Pass you can travel for free.


TAXI SERVICES

Another option is taking a taxi such as City Taxi. You can download their application or you can call them. Their drivers speak at least one foreign language. All cabs are equipped with POS terminal and you can pay in cash or by credit cards.

BUDAPEST CITY PASS

If you plan to spend a few days before or after the festival in the city, we recommend you to buy the CityPass and you will be able to use the public transport such as the tram, metro and buses in Budapest for free. It also allows you to use the Sziget Boat Service from D12 line between Jászai Mari Square and the island.

ACCOMODATION SERVICES 

Sziget Festival provides accommodation services such as camping and tents if you want to sleep on the island or Airbnb and Budapest Hostel options if you choose to stay in the city.
