In the castle district, just a few steps from the statue of 1848-49 soldier stands a museum, called the House of Houdini. Harry Houdini (1874-1926) was the greatest escape artist of all time and the museum houses the only collection of his original artifacts in Europe.Houdini never lived in the building, but came into the world as Erik Weisz in Hungary and was just four years old when his family emigrated tot he USA. He used the name Houdini from the age of 17. Because of his tricks, he was initially known as „The King of the Cards” and later he was bestowed the name „The King of Handcuffs”. The week of the anniversary of his death (31. October) is officially the week of magicians in the USA. The House of Houdini Budapest 1014 Dísz tér 11.
