In the five-round championship, Hungary’s best baristas were able to prove that they deserve the title of local coffee master. The national final took place on 4 July, 2023, at the Starbucks store in Gozsdu. The selection of the best specialist was decided by a jury of the company’s coffee masters. The domestic competition was won by Till Martin, who can represent Hungary among the best in the international final in London in October. Starbucks pays special attention to the professional development of its partners, which is why it offers several opportunities to showcase their talents. As part of this, it organizes the international Barista Championship every year, where the company’s best coffee masters show their skills. During the local rounds, more than 15,000 partners from the countries of Europe, the Middle East and Africa participated in the championship, from which a total of 35 national champions will compete in October 2023 in London. During the one-week trip to London, the finalists will participate in various workshops, and they will also spend a day in Amsterdam, where they will visit the local coffee roasting plant. At the end of the one-week journey, the final will be held, where it will be revealed who will be this year’s Starbucks EMEA Barista Champion. Starbucks has always believed that the components of a delicious coffee include quality ingredients and properly roasted coffee beans, as well as the kind of attention with which the barista prepares and serves it. That is why the coffee chain helps and encourages its baristas to develop with several things: such as its own courses and further training opportunities, as well as the EMEA Barista Championship, during which its baristas have the opportunity to compare their knowledge and share their experiences annually. “We are proud to work with baristas who, like us, see coffee as not just drinking a drink, but a subcultural ritual,” said Kerek Fanni, Brand Manager of Starbucks in Hungary.-„they not only brought their knowledge and experience to the competition, but also the conscientiousness and striving for the maximum they used in their daily work. One task was to create a unique latte art and then prepare their favorite Starbucks coffee and coffee cocktail for the judges. The competition was supplemented with personal stories and the telling of the competitors’ goals. Till Martin, the local barista champion, firstly made Starbucks® Colombia Nariño, medium roast, Single Origin coffee in a French press. The coarsely ground coffee was ready in four minutes, and the jury was able to enjoy the cocoa, caramel, slightly herbal coffee.
