DANUBE CARNIVAL INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL FESTIVAL – JUNE 7-14.2024

Budapest hosts one of the most colourful cultural series of events of the Hungarian summer every June. The Danube Carnival awaits you with a wide range of phenomenal and vivid folk and world music, traditional and contemporary dance shows and concerts in several venues around the capital city.

In addition to the Hungarian traditional and professional art groups, the carnival will incorporate many performers from Europe and beyond.

The “Prime Class” festival promises to provide the audience with long-lasting experience in different styles. For nearly three decades, the prestigious Carnival has been delivering the best performers of many genres aiming to preserve the values and cultural heritage that are significant in community building starring the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and the Duna Art Ensemble.

In 2022 the Carnival won the FIDAF, Federation of International Dance Festivals, ”BEST FESTIVAL” award.

In the heart of Budapest nearly 1000 dancers and musicians will join the Parade celebrating the Carnival.

The picturesque folklore heritage of Hungary and foreign countries impresses the audiences at outdoor concerts, dance houses, breath-taking gala concerts downtown Budapest.

Hundreds of Hungarian and foreign artists will hit the open-air stage in Margaret Island in the prestigious Gala concert. Spectacular scenes performed by the dance troupes will make the experience unforgettable.

At the Chain Bridge International Folk Dance Competition in the Erzsébetliget Theatre the audiences enjoy the noble rivalry of the participating foreign guest ensembles. The primary objective of the Competition is enhancing the intercultural dialogue, to inspire new productions presenting the most significant national and regional cultural achievements and trends at the highest artistic level. The competition emphasises the mutual presence of tradition and modernity, the creativity and innovation.

The event series is a spectacular carnival of nations with more than two hundred Hungarian and foreign dancers and musicians engaged in tradition and innovation, style and smile.
