Budapest on the UNESCO World Heritage list

The UNESCO World Heritage List is a prestigious group of cultural and natural sites of outstanding value to the heritage of humanity. It is administered by UNESCO. The aim is also to help preserve what is World Heritage Listed. Hungary has eight places on the Heritage List, including its capital Budapest – the Buda Castle district and the riverbanks of the Danube have been on the list since 1987, Andrássy Avenue and its historic surroundings (Heroes’ square, City Park) have been on this prestigious list since 2002.
