Decorative Facades

If you walk the streets of Pest with your head up, you will see many strange beings, chubby angels and even Roman gods and figures from Greek mythology. The walls of the houses above eye-level are decorated with stone, metal, wood and glass decorative capital letters, flower vines, Hungarian folk motifs, figures of wild and domestic animals, and portraits. The enamelled tiles, wrought iron or stone balconies, wooden doors and fancy doorknockers at eye level are also fantastic. During the Monarchy era, a law proclaimed that at least 20% of the construction costs of new houses had to be spent on decoration.
