Outdoor cinemas in Budapest over the summer

For movie fanatics and for those, who enjoy outdoor cinemas over the summer, we have good news. Two new outdoor, so-called garden cinemas opened in Budapest. One of them is at Teleki Square in District 8 and the other is located at Hunyadi Square in District 6. Both of them are screening classical movies, comedy, dramas and movies for kids too and both of them are free of charge.

The aim is to revive the community experience and movie culture of Budapest and to develop Budapest’s garden cinemas into an umbrella organisation and to.

In Teleki Square the screenings are on Fridays and they screen movies such as Zoolander, Gladiator and Shakespeare in love, while in Hunyadi Square every Saturday they show films like The curious case of Benjamin Button and Inglourious Basterds among others.

Besides the two new places, there are other well-known open air cinemas that screen both in English and Hungarian language. One of the most popular is Kultik Terasz at Corvin Plaza at District 8, where they often show  both Hungarian and foreign language movies with subtitles.

Another cool place is the Budapest Rooftop Cinema at the roof of Mammut Shopping Mall near Széll Kálmán square. Here they screen films with foreign language audio with Hungarian subtitles.

The Budapest Garden located in District 3, currently screens popular movies in Hungarian but it is planning to screen in English soon. Keep checking their website.

Attending one of the above outdoor cinemas remember to wear a mask and keep social distancing.
