The LIFE IN SPACE world exhibition arrives in Budapest

On March 6, the internationally acclaimed traveling exhibition LIFE IN SPACE will open in Budapest, bringing the world of human space exploration up close and personal. The exhibition, which has attracted more than four million visitors, will be on display at Etele Plaza for three months. The exhibition presents the past, present, and future of space exploration, combining original and reconstructed space objects with state-of-the-art virtual technologies, while introducing visitors to the technological and human dimensions of space travel in a scientifically accurate yet entertaining way.

LIFE IN SPACE was created with the professional cooperation of leading international organizations such as NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, ALTEC, the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and Space Camp. The exhibition presents the technological developments of space missions, the training of astronauts, and the peculiarities of everyday life in space with an authentic professional background.

Visitors can explore the interior of the International Space Station in a virtual reality experience, including a 1:1 scale reconstruction of the panoramic window, while interactive simulators allow them to try their hand at being a space shuttle commander gain insight into the cockpit of an F-18 fighter jet, and experience the Multi Axis Trainer, which simulates the feeling of spatial disorientation in space. The exhibition also features a complete space station reconstruction, providing the opportunity for the public to gain first-hand experience of the working environment of astronauts. The exhibition can only be visited with a guide, and the organizers provide professional guidance as part of the admission ticket.

The relics on display include space suits related to the Apollo missions, including the A7LB, EMU, ACES, and Sokol types—an installation recounting the history of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, and original space shuttle heat shield tiles, including pieces from the Space Shuttle Columbia and Buran programs. The exhibition also presents everyday items used on space stations, such as sleeping bags, hygiene solutions, and exercise equipment, as well as the „Snoopy Cap” used for communication and a real moon meteorite that visitors can touch.

LIFE IN SPACE also pays special attention to the everyday lives of astronauts: it provides a detailed overview of the world of space food, freeze-dried menus, drinking and dispensing systems on space stations, and the technological solutions used to handle floating crumbs and liquid droplets in a microgravity environment. The exhibition also answers the question of how eating becomes not only a physiological necessity, but also a factor that strengthens psychological stability during long-term missions.

The Budapest exhibition promises to be a unique cultural and scientific event, providing a comprehensive overview of technological innovations in space exploration and the limits of human performance, while making the experience of outer space accessible to the Hungarian public in an understandable and modern form.
