According to the vast majority of Hungarians, the Citadel offers the most beautiful panoramic view of the capital, but the Fisherman’s Bastion and the Danube riverbank also rank high among Budapest’s favorite vantage points—according to Visit Hungary’s latest survey. Those surveyed at the Sziget Festival consider cultural programs to be Budapest’s greatest attraction, followed by concerts and festivals, as well as bathhouses and wellness facilities. Forty percent of respondents chose the Citadel when asked where the most beautiful panoramic view of Budapest can be seen—according to a survey conducted by Visit Hungary at the Sziget Festival, involving 489 domestic participants. The Fisherman’s Bastion came in second with 23 percent, while 13 percent chose the Danube embankment, meaning these two locations are also considered by many to offer a unique view of the capital. Seven percent of respondents consider the area around the Parliament Building an ideal spot for panoramic views, while 6 percent each voted for the views from Normafa and from a Danube riverboat. The Várkert Bazár ranks fifth in the survey with 5 percent of the vote. Forty percent of those surveyed see Budapest’s greatest appeal in its cultural programs, such as museums and exhibitions. Concerts and festivals are attractive to 28 percent, while baths and wellness facilities appeal to 12 percent. Seven percent highlighted the capital’s green spaces and natural attractions, 6 percent cited culinary experiences, and 4 percent mentioned Christmas markets and seasonal events. Three percent consider sporting events to be one of the capital’s interesting activities. The survey also sought to answer the age-old question: Which is more popular, Pest or Buda? Based on the overall results, it was a tie; however, respondents from Budapest and the countryside had differing opinions. Among residents of the capital, Pest proved more popular by a margin of 52 to 48 percent, while among festivalgoers from outside the capital, Buda won by a margin of 53 to 47 percent. 1/4 ×
