Art for an Autumn Stroll – Art Market Budapest 2026

For four days, the MTK Sportpark will become a hub for contemporary art: the Art Market Budapest international art fair will be held from October 15–18. Visitors can complement their exploration of the exhibition space with an outdoor stroll, as the sculptures in the sCULTURE program, located in the public park, are free to view.

It fits just as well into a cultural weekend in Budapest as it does into a fulfilling afternoon program: Art Market Budapest offers an opportunity to get closer to contemporary art. Founded in 2011, the international fair provides a prominent platform for fresh artistic endeavors, new inspirations, and emerging artists. Throughout the event’s history, exhibitors have come from more than fifty countries across five continents, allowing Hungarian art to be showcased in an international context at the Budapest event.

An Encounter with Contemporary Art

Exploring an art fair offers a different experience than viewing a single exhibition. Diverse artistic worlds are brought together side by side, and visitors can chart their own path of discovery. It’s worth setting aside time to browse: sometimes, a few minutes spent in front of a work that seems unusual at first glance is what makes the visit truly memorable.

Emerging art scenes and younger generations of artists play an important role in Art Market Budapest’s approach. This can serve as an exciting starting point both for those who regularly follow contemporary art and for those who are just beginning to explore the field.

Sculptures along the walking route

One of the event’s special accompanying programs is sCULTURE, which brings sculpture out into the public park surrounding the exhibition hall. The 2026 exhibition features some thirty contemporary works; the outdoor pieces are complemented by sculptures and installations displayed in the indoor exhibition space. The works on display in the public park are free to view.

The outdoor setting allows the sculptures to come into their own in a unique way. The changing light, the surrounding vegetation, and the vantage points that reveal themselves as you walk all shape the experience. As you walk past a piece and then look back at it from a different angle, details may emerge that were hidden at first glance.

This year’s lineup of artists includes, among others, Gergő Ámmer, Albert-László Barabási, Apolka Erős, Tamás Gilly, Áron Zsolt Majoros, and Anna Edit Szőllősi. The curator of the sculpture park is Lilla Makláry. The selection thus offers an encounter with a variety of contemporary artistic approaches during a single stroll.

Four Days of Autumn in Budapest

Art Market Budapest opens its doors on Thursday, October 15, at the MTK Sportpark. The fair is open Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Friday until 9 p.m. The extended Friday hours provide a convenient opportunity for a cultural outing after work.

Tickets to the fair can be purchased online or at the venue, while the public park section of the sculpture park can be explored as a separate, free attraction. Together, the two offer a fulfilling fall outing: visitors can enjoy a more in-depth exploration of the exhibition space indoors and a stroll through the outdoors accompanied by art.
