Bavarian atmosphere for free on the banks of the Danube

Over eight days of festivities, visitors can look forward to specialty beers, Bavarian flavors, concerts, and family-friendly activities at the first Great Budapest Beer Festival. The event will take place in the large parking lot at Kopaszi Dam from October 16–18 and then from October 21–25; admission is free.

This October at Kopaszi Dam, the atmosphere of Bavarian beer festivals meets Budapest’s club scene. During the day, the Great Budapest Beer Festival offers family-friendly activities; in the afternoon, beer-drinking accompanied by live music; and in the evening, concerts and dancing. The event, held in two parts, can be combined with a walk along the Danube, but it’s also worth planning as a standalone evening activity.

Classic Beers, Bavarian Snacks

The beer selection features well-known Bavarian brands, alongside offerings from further afield: you can sample Chinese Tsingtao and Austrian Golser organic beers from the Lake Fertő region. The organizers are also offering a wide selection of non-alcoholic, 0% beers.

The food also contributes to the Bavarian atmosphere. The menu will feature Nuremberg sausage with Bavarian sauerkraut, Leberkäse, and pretzels, alongside favorites from Hungarian festivals. You can choose from hamburgers, lángos, kürtőskalács, fánk, and roasted chestnuts, and a gluten-free food station is also promised.

Bavarian music, concerts, and a Ferris wheel

The music program ranges from the world of traditional beer festivals to an evening club atmosphere. In the Bavarian stages, SWAB, Takser Spatzen, and Decibel Zenekar will take the stage, while concert performers will include Áron Kovács and Kyra Fedor, Hauber X Bonanza, and Imre Rakonczai. In the evening hours, DJs will take over the stage. Performers will include, among others, DJ Dominique, P.G. Hamvai, Nigel Stately, DJ Andrew, and DJ Kiki. This means an afternoon of tasting can easily turn into an all-night event.

The festival also offers activities for families. A Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and a carousel will be set up at the venue, and on Saturday, October 24, starting at 11 a.m., Jakab Kalap will perform a children’s concert for the little ones.

The organizers have set up a heated tent for cooler weather, so even with fall weather, there will be a covered area for eating, drinking, and having fun.

Admission is free; it’s a good idea to check on-site for prices on food, drinks, and amusement park attractions.
