Would you have thought that both basilicas of our archdiocese hide more than hundred years old time capsules? The guided tours at Esztergom and Budapest basilica are answering the questions above and even more.

St. Stephen’s Basilica

During the 1,5-hour program, you can learn about the basilica’s construction history, the decorative elements of its interior, the legends associated with them, and as well you can visit the illuminated Holy Right kept in the safety of the double reliquary. The guided walk includes a 15-minute organ concert — a prior arrangement is necessary.

Basilica of Esztergom

On the so called Everything about the Basilica tour the visitors walk through the lower church, the liturgical space of the church and the Treasury and the Panorama Hall. Through the relics of the Treasury you can learn about how a coronation ceremony used to be. As well you can find a scale model of the original design of the basilica in the Panorama Hall and the walk will also reveal why the Bakócz Chapel once had to be sawn into 1,600 pieces.
