Eat, drink, and be merry – gastro films at Müpa

The culinary pleasures have inspired many artists throughout history, including filmmakers. It’s enough to think of The Grande Bouffe, which caused a huge scandal at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, and with which the director, Marco Ferreri, opened a new chapter in the great book of motion pictures. You will be able to watch this landmark film, among others, in the Müpacinema 2018/19 selection. Also included is the last feature film of Monthy Python, The Meaning of Life, which reviews the matters of life in 24 sketches – including the sickening depths of gastronomy. Luis Buñuel also approached the topic provocatively in his The Phantom of Liberty, and the classic of Terry Gilliam, Brazil, also handles the theme in a rather idiosyncratic way.

Adventures from the butcher’s counter to picturesque feasts: films such as The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, Jamón Jamón, Pulp Fiction, Chocolat, and The Green Butchers also make an appearance in the sequence of exciting films.
