For two days, the Ring Drive-In and Campground in Mogyoród will become one of the most exciting gathering spots on the Hungarian alternative guitar music scene: Varázs Garázs Feszt 3.0 will take place on August 15–16. This independent festival provides a platform for up-and-coming bands, experimental sounds, and a communal experience, while proving that guitar music is still capable of reaching new generations today.

The history of Varázs Garázs began in 2024 with a spontaneous, illegal party, which grew into an official festival just one year later. This year, the event continues at a new venue: the Ring Drive-In and Campground in Mogyoród will host the two-day event, organized by the band Hocuspony.

The festival will showcase the freshest acts from Hungary’s alternative and experimental guitar music scene. Over the course of two days, 14 bands will take the stage, while the organizers are also planning psychedelic DJ sets and daytime workshops, making the program go far beyond the traditional concert experience. Performers will include, among others, Shoes, JÜ, the Berlin Hotel Collective, Denevér, Hocuspony, Stone Sober, and Cz. K. Sebő. The diverse program spans a wide range of genres, from noisier guitar music to experimental sounds, showcasing the diversity of the Hungarian underground music scene.

However, Varázs Garázs is not about the crowd, but about passion. According to the organizers, the festival centers on music, creative freedom, and, above all, community. The initiative grew out of DIY (do-it-yourself) culture and has now become a meeting place where musicians, organizers, and the audience shape the event’s identity together.

The success of the first events showed that the audience was not only curious about the new initiative but that a genuine community had formed around it. The organizers’ long-term goal is for Varázs Garázs to be not just an annual festival, but a platform that can also appear at other events—even with its own stage—and provide ongoing opportunities for new artists on the Hungarian alternative guitar music scene to showcase their work. The choice of venue is no accident either. The unique atmosphere of the Ring Drive-In and Campground fits well with the world the festival represents. The organizers deliberately seek out venues that have character of their own and do not intend to compete with large, multinational-backed festivals. The goal is to create an intimate, independent event that builds an active community around itself year-round, not just for a single summer weekend.

Varázs Garázs can therefore be viewed much more as an ever-evolving cultural movement than as a one-off music event. It’s a community platform that believes guitar music can still be fresh, modern, and experimental today if given the right space. It’s for those who aren’t looking for the crowds of the biggest festivals, but rather the joy of discovery, new sounds, and that special communal experience that often emerges right in front of the smallest stages.
