On November 20, 2026, a special international exhibition will open at the Bálna: “TREASURES OF EGYPT” is coming to Budapest, inviting visitors on a spectacular journey through time into the mysterious world of pharaohs, pyramids, mummies, and hieroglyphs. The exhibition, currently on display at the Atkinson Museum in Porto’s WOW cultural district in Portugal, will soon be on view in Hungary as well. This immersive exhibition brings to life one of humanity’s most fascinating civilizations through nearly 100 detailed reconstructions and reproductions, monumental visual elements, thematic spaces, and narratives. At the exhibition, visitors can step into the world of the pharaohs, learn about the Egyptian gods, the secrets of hieroglyphs, the rite of mummification, and the ancient Egyptians’ conceptions of the afterlife. The exhibition evokes the atmosphere of the Temple of Luxor and the Avenue of the Sphinxes, showcases the world of the pyramids and burial chambers, and traces the story that led from the discovery of the Rosetta Stone to Jean-François Champollion and the decipherment of hieroglyphs. One of the central figures of the exhibition is, of course, Tutankhamun, whose legendary tomb and treasures continue to capture the imagination of millions of people more than a century after their discovery. Among other things, the exhibition brings to life the young pharaoh’s golden throne, sarcophagus, burial chamber, guardian statues, jewelry, mirror, war chariot, and numerous grave goods. But the history of Egypt extends far beyond Tutankhamun. Visitors can encounter Anubis, Osiris, Isis, Horus, Sekhmet, and Bastet, and learn about the role of the canopic jars, the tools of mummification, and the rituals of the funerary cult. The exhibition also evokes the famous portrait of Nefertiti, the figure of Ramses, and the world of ancient scribes. TREASURES OF EGYPT is not a traditional museum tour: it combines visual displays, storytelling, and educational content. The exhibition is designed for history enthusiasts, families, school groups, and anyone who has been fascinated since childhood by the still-unresolved mysteries of ancient Egypt. A special children’s section awaits our youngest explorers, where they can step into the shoes of a real archaeologist and unearth mysterious artifacts themselves during a playful excavation. A special photo corner ensures a memorable family experience: here, visitors can dress up as Cleopatra or a pharaoh to capture their own Egyptian adventure. The exhibition experience is enriched by free guided tours led by history education majors, who offer a personal and insightful look into the world of history. ATTENTION! THE EXHIBITION WILL ONLY BE IN HUNGARY FOR 3 MONTHS!
