Budapest Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world opened in 1866. It is situated in the Városliget (City Park), in the neighbourhood of the Heroes’ Square, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Vajdahunyad Castle and the Széchenyi Thermal Bath. The Zoo itself is the most visited family attraction in Hungary with 1 million visitors per year. On 12 hectars (30 acres) an impressive variety of programs is waiting for the zoo lovers every day: animals and plants, walk-thru enclosures, animal trainings and feeding programs, aviary training shows, encounters, talks and educational programs.

Budapest Zoo is famous for their spectacular historic buildings under cultural heritage like the Main Gate, the Elephants’ House or the Palm House. All of them have been renovated recently. This Zoo presents a uniquely wide spectrum of biological diversity with more than 9000 individuals of 850 animal species and, additionally, nearly 2500 different kinds of plants. The Zoo is strongly committed to education and conservation of endangered species. It is an accredited member of the European (EAZA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).

The Zoo’s new attraction is the Shark School where visitors can see different shark species: blacktip reef shark, nurse shark, tawny nurse shark, zebra shark. Along the sharks, rays and hundreds of marine fish live here.
