Budapest is getting into Spanish mood

Spain on the movie screen, on your favourite new playlist, in the wine fridge, and maybe under the Christmas tree soon. Courtesy of Pata Negra Spanish restaurants, we’ve rounded up how the authentic Iberian atmosphere is taking over Budapest right now.

Spain on the wide screen

One of the autumn’s most prominent Budapest film festivals is around the corner making the heart of every Spanish film fan beat faster. This year’s Spanish Film Week – Semana del Cine Español – kicks off today, on Tuesday 12 November at the Uránia National Film Theatre. As per use, for 6 days, ending on 17 November, the Spanish Embassy and the Uránia National Film Theatre brings you the most exciting new pieces of Spanish cinema.

This year, 11 films will be shown for those interested in the cinema, landscapes, culture and languages of Spain. This year’s programme will focus on biographies, with the opening night featuring the true story of a charismatic teacher, Antoni Benaiges, during the Civil War (The Teacher Who Promised the Sea). The following days will of course see a colourful selection of films, as befits Spain, from both well-known and lesser-known filmmakers, with a focus on both popular and less well-known elements of Spanish culture. Detailed programme on the Uránia website.

Spanish vibes

Whatever they do, it’s always to the beat of Spain. This September saw the 20th birthday of the doyen of Spanish restaurants in Budapest. Pata Negra in Kálvin Square decided to throw an offline and online celebration as well: matching the fiesta of flavours, a musical fiesta was also composed. A 70-minutes Spotify playlist of the favourite Spanish bands and hits of the Pata Negra team has been served to regulars and social followers alike.

From Joan Manuel Serrat to Estrella Morente, virtuoso Spanish singers and songwriters have been brought together on a free-for-all playlist that Spotify premium subscribers can enjoy in edited version. All-time Pata Negra favourites such as Chambao and Los Rodríguez add to the Spanish ambience, while the oven-baked huevo a la flamenca is accompanied by Camarón de la Isla’s classic flamenco.

Spanish gifts under the Christmas tree

No matter how much we think about it, it’s not always easy to find the right end-of-year gift, not only for our loved ones, but also for friends, colleagues or business partners. The Christmas holidays are fast approaching though. If you don’t want to spend the last weeks of 2024 hunting for gifts that might not even be a match, Pata Negra has a solution.

„We like to think that the Pata Negra gift voucher always hits the spot: you can choose the credit you want to put on the voucher, it is valid for one year from the date of issue and it can be used at any Pata Negra restaurant.” – said Szilveszter Mókusz, co-owner of Pata Negra.

„But our wine selection doesn’t disappoint either, in my opinion. It’s for those who really appreciate elegant, quality Christmas gifts. Bodegas Luzón’s double of Petit Verdot and Monastrell-Syrah in a unique Pata Negra wooden box is a festive gift that will bring real joy to family members and business partners alike.”

Two early gift ideas to get you in the mood for a Spanish Christmas.
