Madame Tussauds Budapest surprises Michael Jackson fans with a unique relic. A special artifact has arrived to cheer up Michael Jackson fans at Madame Tussauds Budapest. The original handprint of the King of Pop was taken in Los Angeles in 1989 when the star’s physical features were measured for the creation of his wax figure. The production in Budapest will exhibit the artifact on the anniversary of the death of the icon. On June 25, 2009, the King of Pop passed away. In tribute to his memory, Madame Tussauds Budapest is exhibiting this unique piece of memorabilia. The original handprint, taken from the singer in Los Angeles in 1989, is now part of the Dorottya Street exhibition and will remain in Hungary permanently. Michael Jackson has the second most wax figures after Queen Elizabeth II at the world-renowned Madame Tussauds brand. Like many other celebrities, Jackson personally participated in the creation of his figure. This required a lengthy session – called sitting – during which Madame Tussauds experts measured his physical attributes—such as height, body shape, eye distance, and hair color—so the artists could craft the most accurate wax figure possible. Jackson posed for the experts on two separate occasions. The handprint now on display was made during one of those sessions in Los Angeles. It can now be viewed on a special stand in the music room at Madame Tussauds Budapest, right next to Michael Jackson’s wax figure. Madame Tussauds Budapest regularly conducts surveys, asking visitors and the public which celebrity figures they would like to see in the exhibition. Since opening, the King of Pop has consistently ranked at the top of the list—he is a favorite among both Hungarian and international guests. At first, a figure was borrowed from Vienna, which proved to be incredibly popular. Soon after, the long-awaited permanent wax figure arrived. Jackson now welcomes visitors alongside stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Freddie Mercury, Beyoncé, and Rihanna. 1/4 ×
