Szoboszlai Dominik’s wax figure has been revealed at Madame Tussauds Budapest — and the global football star himself attended the unveiling. The captain of the Hungarian national team and Liverpool standout was moved to see his figure placed in the same room as Ferenc Puskás, who also wore the iconic number 10. From November 19, the public will also be able to visit the downtown attraction and meet the newest permanent figure. The long-awaited moment has arrived: Szoboszlai Dominik’s wax figure has been unveiled at Madame Tussauds Budapest. The captain of the Hungarian national team and Liverpool FC star now stands among greats in the sports room, including László Papp, Ferenc Puskás, Katinka Hosszú, one of his role models Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Lionel Messi. From November 19, visitors will have the chance to take their own photos with Dominik’s wax figure. The football star attended the ceremony in person, where he shared his thoughts with legendary sports commentator István Hajdú B. about what it feels like to come face to face with his own wax likeness. „I really like the final result. It’s a huge honour for anyone to have a Madame Tussauds wax figure made of them. It’s a form of immortality and a recognition of one’s achievements. It feels great to stand here in the national team jersey — it means a lot to me — especially alongside legends like Öcsi Puskás,” the world-class footballer said. Over the past months, the player met twice with the Madame Tussauds experts, who used state-of-the-art technology to capture every physical detail — from the distance between his eyes, to his height, down to the exact tone of his hair. The team of artists, sculptors and stylists spent months working to make the wax figure as lifelike as possible. His tattoos alone were hand-painted over six weeks. Szoboszlai’s figure wears the Hungarian national team jersey. „The national team jersey means more to me than anything. Wearing the national colours is a privilege, but also a huge responsibility, and I fully understand the weight of it,” Szoboszlai said. Madame Tussauds Budapest expects tens of thousands of fans from around the world to visit the figure, as Dominik is considered an icon not only in Hungary but internationally as well. „I’m proud if I can be a role model for young people, especially if it inspires more of them to start playing football. My story perhaps shows that anyone can achieve their goals if they work hard and stay persistent. As a child, I heard a lot about Hungary’s Golden Team and Ferenc Puskás, and my childhood idol was Cristiano Ronaldo — I respect him for how far he has come from where he started. At the same time, I don’t aim to become Ronaldo or Puskás — I want to walk my own path,” Szoboszlai said. „There can never be enough Hungarian global stars! We are incredibly proud to be the ones to unveil the very first wax figure of Dominik Szoboszlai anywhere in the world. Among our more than sixty figures, we are especially proud of those that commemorate the outstanding figures of Hungarian culture, history, science and sport. Katinka Hosszú stood next to her own figure at our opening, and we have also hosted the families of László Papp and Ferenc Puskás. Welcome to the world of Madame Tussauds, Dominik, and we wish you a long, successful career full of achievements,” said Zsuzsanna Óhidi, Chief Operating Officer of Madame Tussauds Budapest. 1/5 ×
