THE HEART OF UNICUM

THE HEART OF UNICUM

The old distillery is the home of Unicum production since 1892; this is where the 4 types of Unicum are made up to this day.

During our tours, we show our visitors the old distillery and all the old equipment that the Zwack Company used back in the day for the production. We show our visitors the old ceramic barrels that were used for the extraction part of the process, and we show them the old distillery machine as well, that could be used today to produce the same quality of Unicum – just in a slower pace, that is why we do not use them.

Aside from the things from the past, we also present the current step by step production of Unicum. The most interesting and sacred part of the Unicum recipe is the 40+ herbs and spices that they use for the drink – this is only known by the Zwack family members.

We also show our visitors the cellar itself where there are more than 500 barrels that are several decades old and all of them are still in use for Unicum production. During our tours visitors can also taste the Unicum straight from the barrels to better understand the complexity and taste of the drink.

Our tours end at the museum area, where visitors can learn more things about the Zwack family and Hungary as well, with our interactive systems and beautiful showcases.
