Frida Kahlo, Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud – Upcoming exhibitions we are crazy about

The Mexican painter's first ever Budapest exhibition opens on the 111th anniversary of her birth in July, mainly based on the collection of Museo Dolores Olmedo in Mexico City.

Among others, Frida Kahlo, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and then Dezső Korniss, will be open to visitors this year at the Hungarian National Gallery (MNG). Debuting at the end of May Julian Rosefeldt's Manifesto will be a video installation that cites the world of art manifestations typical of 20th century art with Cate Blanchett's starring role. From October onwards "Bacon, Freud and the London School", one of the most influential periods of contemporary British painting is coming straight from London's Tate. MNG continues to honor the Hungarian masters: a 110th anniversary of the artist's birth will be presented in the Korniss exhibition in December.

The Museum of Fine Arts will re-open in October after a comprehensive reconstruction. The renewed building will be opened in two stages in the spirit of the new concept, entitled as the museum of old masters; all the new permanent exhibitions will be visible from the middle of 2019. As it was revealed, the first temporary exhibition of the Museum of Fine Arts honors Leonardo, the Renaissance master's horse sculpture will be featured along with ten original drawings from October. At the end of 2019, the Spanish, Italian and Dutch Baroque exhibitions will present in a large exhibition of Rubens, Van Dyck and Flemish Baroque masterpieces, with at least 20 masterpieces from Ruben. Later in 2020, the museum's long-awaited Cézanne exhibition also returns.

By the end of 2018, the National Museum Restoration and Warehouse Center (OMRRK) will be created, which will provide 21st century conditions for the preservation of over 350,000 artefacts of the Ethnographic Museum, the Fine Arts Museum and the MNG, as well as the Central European Institute for Art History Research .
