description Kiscell Museum was originally built as a Trinitarian monastery and church in 1760. After the Trinitarian Order was dissolved in 1784, the building became state property, first utilized as a garrison, then later as military hospital. Max Schmidt, a Viennese furniture magnate and art collector bought it in 1910 and rebuilt as a chateau to house his collection. In his will, Schmidt left the building to the capital, with the only stipulation that it would serve the public as a museum. At present, the building is home to the Modern Local History Collection of the Budapest History Museum and to the Capital Picture Gallery’s fine arts collection.
